|East Midlands Airport is an international airport in the East Midlands of England, located in Leicestershire close to Castle Donington.
It lies between the cities of Nottingham (15 miles (24 km)) Leicester (18 miles (29 km)) and Derby (14 miles (23 km)).
It mainly serves the counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Staffordshire and South Yorkshire.
Passenger numbers peaked in 2008 at 5.6 million, but had declined to 4.3 million in 2013 making it the 11th busiest airport in the UK by passenger traffic.
However as a major air cargo hub, it was the second busiest UK airport for freight traffic in 2013.
Because of its strategic location and excellent cargo facilities East Midlands was an easy choice for the Airwego Group when choosing the AirweCargo UK base.
From here we fly freight to a myriad of locations across the globe, driven by the ever changing needs of our diverse clientele. In doing so we join DHL, UPS, Royal Mail and others in using the large cargo facility with a runway length capable of taking the very largest aircraft in the fleet and enabling raid road transport for our freight via the adjacent motorway systems feeding North, South and Central UK.
